We Have Lost the News
By Nancy Stroupe (Originally Published on 12/20/2020)

The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads as follows:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Alex Jones, one of the brothers who owned Jones Media, an organization that owned a number of newspapers and magazines in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina once wrote a book called Losing the News. In his book, he talked about the many reasons why we are losing the journalism that, in the past, kept our politicians honest and our republic great. His conclusions at the end of his book were hopeful about what could be done to stop the threat. The book was written in 2009.

I haven’t seen Alex in several years and I would be very interested in knowing what he thinks of our current situation.

I see things differently these days. I CONTEND WE HAVE TOTALLY LOST THE NEWS.

Our country has split into mainstream and alternative news sources. The mainstream sources include CNN, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, at least some of the anchors at FOX, and many others. The alternative news sources include NEWSMAX, OAN, NEWSWARS, INFOWARS, RIGHTSIDE BROADCASTING, BANNED.VIDEO, The Epoch Times, several of the anchors on FOX and others.

Social media has made the same split, primarily because of censorship that has exploded on Facebook, Twitter, and others. Many conservatives are having to move to Parler, MeWe, Gab.com, and other alternative avenues for social media in order to speak freely. The heavy-handed censorship, for all intents and purposes, has eliminated our First Amendment rights.

What has happened to our news? A few individuals and corporations have spent the last decades quietly accumulating most of our country’s media outlets. The majority of news sources in the United States is now owned by 15 billionaires and six corporations. The people who run these organizations, for the most part, are like-minded liberals who tightly control what their publications are allowed to air.

A good case in point was the Hunter Biden scandal that broke before the election, but was not permitted to run in the general news.

“How could that happen?” you may ask. Well, it did. The facts are right there for anyone to check out. Several FOX news anchors tried their best to get the story out. In addition to some alternate news sources (INFOWARS, BANNED.VIDEO, Guiliani’s channel, etc.), theirs were the only voices in the mainstream media that seemed to be concerned. CNN, NBC, and other mainstream sources were denying that there was a scandal and called it “more Russian propaganda.”

Go back and look. The FBI has been investigating Hunter Biden for two years, for goodness sake! But these individuals and corporations, who supported the Biden/Harris ticket, chose a news blackout to deal with the story, which originally broke in the New York Post, America’s oldest daily newspaper. The other newspapers and media sources refused to run the story. Reporters and other media personnel got in trouble for trying to carry the story and enlarge it. Consequently, only the people who tended to watch alternative media sources were aware of the breaking story and, with the possibility of implicating presidential candidate Joe Biden, full disclosure of the story might have changed the way many people voted in the election.

So, who does own the news? The six corporations are: AT&T (which owns CNN), Comcast, The Walt Disney Company, National Amusements (which owns Viacom and CBS), FOX, and News Corp (which owns The Wall Street Journal).

The 15 billionaires are:
*Michael Bloomberg, who employs more than 2000 reporters.
*Robert Murdoch, who owns 21st Century FOX and News Corp (The Wall Street Journal), and owns 120 newspapers.
*Donald Newhouse and brother Samuel (“Si”), who own Advance Publications, newspapers, magazines, cable television, including Wired, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and Vogue.
*Cox Family, who own Cox Media Group (Atlanta Journal-Constitution), newspapers, 14 television stations, 59 radio stations, and a cable channel.
*Jeff Bezos of Amazon, who owns The Washington Post.
*John Henry, who owns The Boston Globe.
*Sheldon Adelson, who owns The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
*Joe Mansueto, who owns Morningstar, Fast Company, and Inc.
*Mortimer Zuckerman, who owns U.S. News & World Report, and The New York Daily News.
*Barbey Family of Black Walnut Holdings, who own The Village Voice.
*Stanley Hubbard, of Hubbard Broadcasting (ABC and NBC affiliates), who owns 13 television stations and 48 radio stations.
*Patrick Soon-Shiong of Tribune Publishing Company, who owns The Los Angeles Times and The Chicago Tribune.
*Carlos Slim Helu, who owns The New York Times.
*Warren Buffet, who owns 70 daily newspapers and, several years ago, acquired 63 weeklies in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama.
*Viktor Vekselberg, a Russian who owns Gawker.
My husband Bruce and I have wondered for the last several years why there were no “gung ho” reporters who were willing to take on the controversial topics these days.

My own experience in the newspaper field probably holds the answer.
When I first took over as the publisher around 2002 of The Avery Journal-Times, a small weekly newspaper in western North Carolina, I had a staff of 15 people. I had enough staff that, if there were a topic or story that needed more investigation, there was someone available to do so. Today, nearly two decades later, almost all the work on the newspaper is done by technical, layout, and ad personnel at the company headquarters. There is no resident publisher. There is an editor who also is the reporter/sportswriter, with sometimes one reporter, and an advertising person who is shared with other publications. There is no good way to cover just the usual monthly board meetings, much less investigate anything out of the ordinary. So who is left to do the important job of keeping our politicians honest by reporting the news, fairly and honestly?

More and more people, especially those with conservative leanings, are turning to other sources, such as NEWSMAX, OAN, NEWSWARS.COM, INFOWARS, RIGHTSIDE Broadcasting, Banned.video, The Epoch Times, and others.

Many of us on the right have wised up. We have been watching the whole left-wing takeover for several years now. It has never before been so evident as it has been lately with the widespread election fraud and mainstream media biases. We are fighting to keep our republic.

Those of you on the left are in just as much danger of losing your rights and your freedoms. You need to read, read, read everything you can get your hands on about the socialist agenda of the extreme left-leaning Democrat Party today (it is not the party of John Kennedy) and check out the plans of Biden and Harris (especially Harris) for our beloved country. And if you don’t want to do that, it probably would be a good idea to take a course in Chinese.
